8/21/2023 0 Comments Engine idle shutdown timerThis process is most often used during hot. Before the engine shuts down, tap on the breaks to interrupt idle shutdown. First set your engine RPM anywhere between 8, the lower the better if you would like to save some fuel, and in turn, some cash. Its not a direct answer but I hope this will add something to other answers you get. To bypass a Kenworth’s idle shutdown you just need to go through a simple process. IIRC, you're supposed to idle up these engines at like 800 - 900 rpm if your gonna idle for any length of time. I have heard (here at TTR I think) that you're not supposed to low idle these new engines at 500 - 600 rpms. Is it a Frieghtliner warranty issue? I don't know Now, mine idles all I need it to, idled up or not. & after specifically saying they could not disable the idle limiter per Ryder rules. Neither of us could get it to idle for more than a few minutes. The Forman Engine Shutdown Unit is designed to reduce excess fuel consumption, engine running time and emissions by monitoring and limiting vehicle idle time. They said I had to turn the key on & let it cycle through its pre-start checks etc, then start it, then use the cruise control to idle it up (900 rpm max) & it will idle. I explained that we didn't have an APU so, I need to be able to idle all night. I went inside & asked them to come show me how to get this new truck to idle. The system detects when the vehicle is at idle, based on engine speed, and activates the timer. The day I picked it up it was hot (June) & I was attempting to idle the truck & I couldn't get it to idle for more that maybe 4 or 5 minutes while trying to move stuff from the old truck to the new one. Idle limiters use one of three types of timer-activation systems: RPM/engine speed-activated. Once the timer counts up to the programmed time threshold, the engine will shut off. I have a 2015 Cascadia that we lease from Ryder. Operation Once the vehicle is at idle with the transmission is in park and the service brake released, (not pressed) the engine control module (ECM) will start a timer. Idle-reduction technologies must meet all the following requirements to be modeled under § 1037.520 except as specified in paragraphs (b) and (c) of this section: (1) Automatic engine shutdown (AES) systems. I'm not sure if this will help you but here is my experience. It does not apply for idle-reduction technologies you do not model under § 1037.520.
